” The Nation That Forgets It’s Defenders Will Itself Be Forgotten…”

– Calvin Coolidge, 1920 –

What Is the Afghanistan Memory Wall?

In 2012 I set out to honor the fallen from the war in Afghanistan (where I served) in a unique way. I’m a 2 time USA Memory Champion and decided to combine my passion for our military with my passion from memory. Over the course of 10 months I memorized the fallen in the order of their death.

Rank, 1st name and last name of over 2,300 is over 7,000 words. I travel the USA with this wall writing the names out from memory. I’ve heard countless accounts of heroism and moving stories. This podcast is dedicated to telling those stories.

Why Is It Important?

It’s been said that the nation that forgets it’s defenders will also be forgotten.

It is our duty to honor and remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. As a nation we say, ‘You are not forgotten.’ However, often I think we mean it as a whole. The entire group is remember as a group and honored as a group that will not be forgotten.

This wall is a way to say individually to each and every person YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN.

It’s a way to let the Gold Star Families know that someone knows the name of their loved one and remembers them and honors them for everyone to see.

Darren Sapp wrote the stories you’ll hear on the podcast.
